RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

I talked to the folks at Good Sam a little while ago and it sounds like they've got a handle on the permissions problem with the logins. Try it again and see if it works now. If your username has spaces in it, try adding underscores where the spaces are. So if your name is Eat At Joes, try logging in as Eat_At_Joes And as far as staying logged in goes, the new site has a lot more security measures than RV.NET does, so your passwords need to be more complex and you have to sign in more often. I don't know that this is something that can be changed. Thanks Dave! They did fix it, and I am logged in now. Great news!!!

YC 1 here. I too cannot login on the new forum. Tried resetting the password to no avail. I did NOT add an additional character but was not asked to when resetting it. At least I don't think so. Try logging in as YC_1.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

This is frustrating (and I spent 40 years as a computer systems programmer so I know frustrating). I click on the "RV.Net User" button and the "reset my password". The email goes to SPAM (say what?) but thanks to the tip above, I found it. I click on the link and supply my email address and a new password (the rules for which are pretty loose - 6 - 20 characters?). That puts me back at the Logon screen and where things fall apart. What am I supposed to enter as "Member Name"? I have always used Carl n Susan on this forum (and others). If I enter that, along with my newly revised password I get a failure. This is the fail message: Contains one or more invalid characters. This field can contain letters, numbers, and special characters, such as dashes or underscores. Spaces are not permitted. Great! My previous Username is no longer permitted? OK, maybe it really wants my email address as the Member Name and it is related to the Carl n Susan id. So I plug in my email address and my new password. Fail Again! With the same message which is strange as there are no spaces and surely the "@" is allowed in an email addy. Help! This shouldn't be this difficult. Yikes. I bet it doesn't allow spaces in usernames. Things I would try: - URL encode the spaces: Carl%20n%20Susan - Email [email protected] and let them know what happened Let me know if you're still having trouble after that.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

I appreciate everyone's patience so far. I saw the earlier comment about Truck Campers, which is totally valid. I feel the same way about the lack of Toy Haulers. I urge you all to share your feedback (respectfully) with the team at [email protected] and let them know what you think should be added/changed.

TIP: Watch your SPAM filter for the password reset email from the new Community. It took me a while to find the email and reset my password to get onto the site. It's working now though.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

Are they going to send all existing users a link to the new site via email? Check your SPAM folder. That's where mine was.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

UPDATE: Since you can see this message, the new site hasn't fully gone live yet. Hopefully the issue(s) will be resolved later today. YOU MUST RESET YOUR PASSWORD ON THE NEW COMMUNITY SITE: The password requirements on the new site are more complex than on this one, so you'll need to reset your password before you can log in. 1. Access the sign-in page on the new Community. 2. Click RV.NET Users. 3. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SIGN IN 4. Click Forgot Username or Password. 5. Follow the prompts to reset your password using your email on the new Community.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

This may be minor to some but it has been an issue for a long time. Life member notation went away many years ago and it was never fixed. Probably because no one knew how. Will the member status be more accurate now as many will admit they are not Good Sam members but their posts show that they are. Thanks for finally fixing what used to be a very busy place so that maybe it can get back to its former glory. Good point. That's a good question for the folks at [email protected]. I wish I had an answer for you.

Hoping to still be able to access my old private messages? Jerry Hey Jerry - I'm so glad you asked this because it hadn't crossed my mind. I JUST GOT WORD THAT OUR PMs WILL NOT BE MIGRATED. Hold all my calls while I start to back up nearly 20 years of PMs. :S

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

Oh, I hate change! :B Thanks and glad admins are looking forward. I personally can't say "Hate", although I don't adapt to it really well. I hope this isn't a Reinvent the Wheel when only a tweek is necessary, or in this case, a Few tweeks. But, as said, I'll give it a try. Tweaking RV.NET isn't an option. This entire site was custom written years ago in a language that isn't supported anymore and nobody at Good Sam knows how to modify it. I've known for years that RV.NET's days were numbered. I'm just grateful that Good Sam decided to make the investment in an alternative instead of letting this forum go extinct altogether.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

but there is no button.. IMPORTANT: The first time you log in to the new site after Wednesday, please use the RV.NET Users button to access your account. I did find it--click the little human icon However it will NOT let me log in and yes I do have my user name and password correct. You’re early. :B It won’t work until Wednesday.

RE: Fun in the snow...

I'm thinking about getting a UTV. Just checked saferwholesale. The choice is wide and it is hard to make the decision. Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge, guys. It seems that it is better to narrow my search to Polaris and Can-Am. I'm biased since I'm a CanAm guy, but I would add Honda to that mix. In my mind, the x3 (CanAm), RZR (Polaris), and Talon (Honda) are the main contenders. Yamaha is catching up, but I don't see very many of them on the trails. Having just spent the weekend in our x3 though, that's the only one for me. What an amazing toy. And what a gift that we still have these open lands to explore. I can't believe how lucky we still are.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

How about the search feature? Will the pictures that have been hosted "off site" disappear? I wish the new site all the best. Hey Pianotuna - Yes, the new site will have a Search feature, and it's supposed to actually work. The Search function should work against ALL of our content including the years of posts that RV.NET's Search couldn't access. I don't know for a fact, but I suspect that the existing photos will be referenced via links just like they are now. New posts should link to photos on the new site and old posts will link to photos wherever they're currently hosted.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

I forgot to mention that there will be a Like button, which we've needed for years. Maybe some of you remember the debacle when we added a Like button here and had a contest for the most likes. It was such a disaster that the button was soon disabled and never returned. Button = Good Button + Contest = Disaster

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

So glad to see this. Thank-you! I'm not sure what native photo hosting is though. Is that similar to FB click and share to a post? Exactly. I don't know if you post many pictures here, but it can be pretty painful sometimes. FB's photo hosting is so much simpler. The new community site will work more like FB.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

Dedmiston: Please know we do appreciate all of the hard work the admins and staff are doing to keep this online community in place. I only have one suggestion for when they throw the switch. They should put in place a re-direct page with the new website listed on it for those who do not see this announcement in time. I hope to see everyone on the other side. :B Absolutely yes. And that's exactly how they tell me it will work on Wednesday and beyond. Anyone who tries to visit the current site will be redirected to the new Good Sam Community.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

I guess I'll have more thoughts and share them as they come to mind. (If you can't tell, I'm still digesting this myself...) I've been in contact with our site sponsors for the 18 years that I've been a Moderator and now the one year I've been the Administrator. And I couldn't even guess at the number of times we've been told "we're revamping the site and you're gonna love it". As long as I can remember, it's always just been talk. But now it looks like a certainty and I'm finally excited about it. I won't be too excited until I've seen it for myself and know that it's going to be workable for us, but this is the first time I've had even a molecule of optimism about a new version of RV.NET. I've worked in Tech most of my life, and some of those years also included Sales. I never stayed in Sales though, because I'm a lousy liar. I succeeded though in the cases where I sincerely believed in the product or service that I was selling. With that in mind, I can't "sell" our new site yet, but I'd like to make a few requests of you members: - If you like the new site, please help us all "sell" it. Tell your friends if you love it (or in fairness, tell them if you hate it too). Hopefully it's the former though, and I'm hoping we can count on your word of mouth to help build the new site. It's no secret that membership here at RV.NET has dwindled over the years and crashed during the pandemic. I'm hoping that the new site will be a positive change for all of us and hoping that we can count on you to help us organically grow the new site. - I'd also like to ask you all to help us build the new site into what WE want it to be. The site can only be as good as its members and participation. To be blunt though, a lot of the old timers here can be pretty crusty and not very welcoming. Nothing squelches a new member's zeal faster than having an old timer tell them "That's been asked a million times before" or "Just use the search". As tempting as that is, we all need to suppress those urges and be on our best behavior. This is the time to bend over backwards to be warm and welcoming. Good Sam is investing their resources to give us a better framework, but the site can only thrive if WE making it a friendly community where people feel free and invited to participate and grow with the rest of us.
